Skipper shows way
Hitchin continued their push for promotion with a nine try win against Thmesians
The visitors soon shook off the journey to Twickenham with two unconverted tries by Fred Rooney and James Bolter.
Following a good run by Adam Shaw from a lineout on the Thamesians 22 ,Tom Tidey went over for another unconverted try.
A superb break by Ali Southward was completed by Will Rooney running in support for a try, converted by Will Evans.
With the score at 22 nil Hitchin got a bit adventurous and an attempted overhead pass was intercepted by Thamesians who ran from their own half to score a converted try under the posts.
Hitchin fought back with Will Evans chasing a kick through by Will Rooney to get the touch down.
Evans was on the score board again in a few minutes, a quickly taken penalty going through the hands of Ruiri Shanahan& Ali Southward for Evans to score a try, which he converted himself, to lead at half time by 34 – 7
With Hitchin forwards dominating the scrums and the lineouts, Thamesians were finding it difficult to get out of their half, and kicked ball which if it didn’t go to touch was run back at them. Which is what Will Rooney did only to be tackled just before the line, but Ryan Arbon was in support and he scored for Evans to convert.
Five minutes later, a scrum 30 meters out from the Thamesians line resulted in the ball going to Ali Southward who dodged his way through the defence to score.
A penalty against Hitchin in their 22 was taken quickly by Thamesians and after several phases they got the ball to their winger who went over in the corner.
A final try to winger Elliot Gibson brought the final score Thamesians 12 Hitchin 51 as the referee bought the game to a premature end ,due to an injury to the Thamesians prop. Thankfully this was not as serious as initially thought.
